Online Students Expectations and Requirements

E-mail Print

It's really is quite simple, do your work. Nothing more, nothing less.  One of the great things about an online class is that you can work at your own pace and your own time.  Prefer to work 3 hours on Wednesday from 11:00 PM to 1:00 AM - go ahead. Rather work an hour a day from 3:00 to 4:00 again the choice is yours.

The hardest thing about an online class can also be the ability to work at your own pace and your own time.  Really how can online Algebra One compare with the latest YouTube video or your friend's Blog?

Again the choice is yours. The hard part is you need to make yourself do the work and put in the time online. No one is going to be looking over your shoulder when your online making sure you stay focused on the class.  You need to do that.

You know how easy it is to get "Lost in the Web", well the motivation to stay focused and complete the class as quickly as possible has to come from you!  Are you up to the task?  Do you really want to drag out Algebra One for the next 36 weeks or would you rather finish it in the next 10 weeks and move on.  Again the choice is yours.

As a student in the Edmonds School Districts eLearning program I agree to the following expectations and requirements:

  1. I agree to do my own work and not copy or plagiarize other’s work.If I am in doubt about copyright I will check with my instructor prior to submitting my work.
  2. It is my responsibility to check in with my instructor. I understand that I must check in with my instructor at least once a week. These check in’s may take the form of a phone call, email, text message or a face-to-face meeting.
  3. I will check my email daily  and realize that this is the method used by the eLearning program to communicate with students and their families
  4. I am responsible to complete my online work at the minimum pace established by my instructor. The rate I complete work will be determined by my mastery of the content, the number of online classes I need to complete and the expected time frame of my enrollment. My instructor will establish the expected pace of work for a course with me.
  5. If I do not maintain an adequate pace for my work or do not check-in with my instructor at least weekly I understand that I will be required to attend a face-to-face or virtual lab currently scheduled for afternoons at the Edmonds School District Service Center. My instructor will assign me lab hours until such time as I have “caught-up” with my online work and am progressing at the expected pace. If I do not attend the weekly labs if required or fail to complete work at an adequate pace I may be dropped from the online program.(See Intervention Pyramid)
  6. I agree to abide by the rules and regulations of the Acceptable Use Policy for network users I signed to have access to the Edmonds School District computer network.
  7. If I do not abide by these expectations and regulations I understand I may be removed from the eLearning program.
